Can virus also cause vaginitis
|
| Yes, although bacteria and yeast are the most common causes of vaginitis, virus too can cause this condition in women. Viral vaginitis is usually contracted through sexual contact with an infected partner. Some viral infections are caused by a virus called HSV (or herpes simplex virus). This kind of vaginitis causes painful lesions and sores in the genital area. The sores can be inside or outside the vagina. Another virus that causes vaginitis is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is transmitted through sexual contact. It is a very painful condition and causes many warts to grow in the vaginal, groin and rectal area. The diagnosis is usually made with the help of a pap smear test. |
