Habits of Bowel Problems

  • Go as soon as you feel the urge, or as soon as possible, don't delay, your body absorbs water from the stool making it harder and harder.
  • Try to avoid excessive straining during bowel movement, just relax and let it kind of drop out by itself, don't try to rush things, take your time.
  • Don't read during bowel movement, do what needs to be done and get out, reading and sitting for to long on the toilet is one of the worst mistakes you can make. Prolonged sitting causes unnecessary pressure on your hemorrhoids and makes condition even worse.
  • Try to train yourself to have regular bowel movements, which ever time of the day is best for you, usually the best time is in the morning, right after breakfast and while you are at your home, where you can use your shower or bidet to rinse.
  • Avoid using toilet paper, it can cause further irritation, use moist wipes like Tucks, or you can use baby pads, pre-moistened pads are excellent when you are away from home, always carry a pack with you, even better is to use shower or bidet to rinse, be gentle but thorough. Make sure to use gentle soaps, to avoid further irritation.
  • Wear cotton underwear, it wicks away moisture, and does not irritate the skin
  • Use talc powder, to soothe irritation, and help with moisture control.
  • Exercise regularly, 3 to 5 times per week, a brisk 20 - 30 minute walk will significantly improve your bowel movement.
  • Ok, now that you are treating causes of hemorrhoids, it is time to deal with hemorrhoid symptoms, and try to shrink hemorrhoids at the same time.
